Towards ‘Knowledge-based’ Systems for Global Optimization

I. P. SCHAGEN

Department of Computer Studies, Loughborough University of Technology

A system has been designed to tackle the global optimization problem using parameters based on an internal model of the objective function which represent the system's ‘knowledge’ about the function. Examples of such a system have been used on both the one-dimensional and the multidimensional problem, and the results obtained are encouraging for further work.
