Linear Dynamical Systems and Instantons in Yang-Mills Theory

U. HELMKE

Fachbereich Mathematik, Universität Regensburg 8400 Regensburg-F.R.G.

In this paper a new connection between linear systems theory and Yang-Mills gauge theory is described. This relation has appeared theough recent work of Atiyah et al. on the parametrization of all instanton solutions of the Yang-Mills equation on R4. As a result of this work, the parameter space M(SU(m), n) of SU(m)-instantons can be imbedded into a space of linear multimode systems and we study the topology of these spaces.
