Extensions to the Characteristic-Sequences Method

F. LI AND R. G. CAMERON

University of Bradford, School of Control Engineering Bradford, W Yorkshire, BD71DP

An extension of the characteristic-sequences method, which is the time-domain version of the characteristic-locus method, is made to the case that the first nonzero element of the matrix weighting sequence has multiple eigenvalues. The extended definition of the characteristic weighting sequence is given and it is shown that this is consistent with the original definition for the case of distinct eigenvalues. An algorithm is deduced in detail, and the possibility of the deduction of alternative algorithms is pointed out by viewing the characteristic weighting sequence problem as a set of simultaneous linear equations.
