Observer Design for Systems with Diffusion

Finite-dimensional approximate observers are designed for one-dimensional diffusion processes described by a scalar partial differential equation of the parabolic type. In the design, the observer's accuracy can be traded off against its dynamical order and the number and type of the required measurements. The eigenvalue spectrum of the observation error dynamics is freely assignable.
