Fixed and Minimal Order Compensators

SHAUL GUTMAN and FABIEN CHOJNOWSKI

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology Haifa, Israel

Given a time-invariant linear plant, the authors consider a minimal (or fixed) order compensator such that the (unity feedback) closed loop is stable with respect to a given region in the complex plane. The so-called critical constraint is used to find points in the (parameter space) stability region. This enables some practical constraints to be added in the compensator design.
